When you’re trying to gain weight and you’re busy, prep time is your enemy. The 30-minute meal you planned at lunch becomes the protein bar at 4pm. Here are 15 high-calorie snacks for weight gain that take under a minute - most under 30 seconds.

No-prep, 0-30 seconds

  • Peanut butter, straight from the jar (2 tbsp): 190 cal. One of the highest calorie-density foods on earth.
  • Whole milk glass (250ml): 150 cal. Drink it with anything.
  • Almonds, handful (30g): 175 cal. Keep a jar on your desk.
  • Trail mix, handful (50g): 350 cal. The single best calorie-per-second food.
  • Granola, straight from bag (60g): 280 cal. Pour into your mouth standing up.
  • Cheese stick (28g): 80 cal. Stack 3 of them.
  • Dried mango or apricots (50g): 160 cal. Pure sugar density.

30-60 seconds

  • Peanut butter + banana toast: 400 cal. Toast the bread, spread, slice banana, eat.
  • Greek yogurt + honey + granola: 450 cal. Three ingredients, one bowl.
  • Cottage cheese + jam: 300 cal. Cottage cheese is criminally underused for bulking.
  • Avocado on toast + olive oil: 450 cal. Mash, drizzle, salt, eat.
  • Hummus + pita bread (full pita): 350 cal. Dip aggressively.
  • Apple + peanut butter: 320 cal. The cliché works for a reason.
  • Chocolate milk (500ml whole-milk): 400 cal. Buy the carton, keep it in the office fridge.
  • Cheddar + crackers (40g cheese + 30g crackers): 350 cal. Stack and demolish.

The strategy

Place these strategically. Stash trail mix at your desk. Keep peanut butter and bread in your kitchen at all times. Have whole milk and yogurt in the fridge. The less friction between “I should eat” and “I’m eating,” the higher your daily total.

klyo’s Top Up button surfaces the right snack at the right time - e.g., at 4pm when you’re behind, it suggests trail mix or PB toast based on your remaining calories and remaining time in the day.
